Cinema5D picked up our video on their blog.
Camera: Canon Eos C100
Feature Update for Dual Pixel Auto Focus
Lenses Used: Canon 24-104, Canon 70-200 2.8 MK1, Canon 24-70 2.8 MK1 & Sigma 18-35 1.8 (in order)
Recorded on Atomos Ninja Blade with C100 Overlays
Uploaded 720p H.264 High Compression
Findings: Canon 24-105 is smooth overall, no issues with hunting or noise.
Canon 70-200 MK1 is smooth also, tends to snap on focus harder (most likely due to shallower plane of focus)
Canon 24-70 2.8 MK1 is slow and not as smooth, usuable, but the most noisiest from the bunch.
Sigma 18-35 1.8 is the smoothest most natural looking when it grabs focus, but has a major drawback, we could not seem to get it to work unless we were sitting at F/1.8 – at first we thought it was an exposure issue, but even with bright exposure at other F/stops, we could not get it to function – don’t write this lens off, we still need to test more.
Audio: I don’t think noise from these lenses would be loud enough to disturb an interview if you are using lapel / shot gun mics.
Canon takes approx 1 day to complete the upgrade which is a hardware calibration and firmware update. It will set you back $550 inc Taxes in Australia.
So far very impressed – next week we will test it out the the Mōvi M10, which im certain will be very useful.
